Orwell in Burma

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Reading Orwell's "Burmese Days" while enjoying a meal in Mandalay's (84th Street) night market. Burma had a big impact on Eric Blair, a.k.a. George Orwell (who served the British Empire there), and greatly informed/influenced his later views on power, exploitation and the politics of the oppressed. Orwell is my hero...this photo invokes great memories, indeed. Photo taken by me (Bradford Duplisea), January 2008.
