Last week, my parents and i went to Jember to sent our condolences to one of our family member, there is no preparation, when we got the news then we decided to depart the next morning. We decided to go by car and the journey took about 15 hours from our home, Semarang (yes, it's so far far faaaar away). After all of the business was done, we think that we could go to the beach near the town, Papuma beach.
Papuma beach was located about 30km from Jember downtown, it's took just for 1,5 hour riding. When we arrived there, the sun already gone and we decided to stay there. In papuma area there is only one kind of hotel and i think that's not recommended, start from IDR 300.000 per room but so poor for the facilities (but because the condition we perforce to stay there). I recommend if u want to come here, try to find homestay in watu ulo area, i think it's better (only 5 minutes from papuma area)
But don't worry, there are so many seafood shop that u can get fresh grill fish and seafood there (there are also the shop that open for 24 hours). For the food price is standard, all kind of fish IDR 75.000/kg, for squid IDR 100.000/kg and for octopus IDR 90.000/kg. We eat 2kg of fish only for 4 people hahaha it's full enough! And they sell not only seafood but also fried chicken and noodles
Overall, i recommend Papuma beach for anyone whose come to Jember. It's white sand beaches, it's quite especially in weekdays, near from downtown and good access to reach this beach. The ticket price is IDR 15.000/person and IDR 5.000/car. But be careful, the wave is big here and there are so many fisherman's boats. And don't forget, please throw your trash in dustbin because based on what i saw, plastic trash start to scattered around the beach :( and by the way, there are a lot of monkey there! But they are nice monkey not the naughty one hahaha 🐒
XOXO
