Nature Photography in Finland - 789 beautiful Scandinavian islands in winter

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi Steemians

Today we would like to share some pictures with you that we took in Finland. We traveled around by boat and got to see some beautiful winter landscapes. We took these shots on Canon 5D . I like these pictures because of their eerie light and gloomy flair.

Finland has around 789 islands of which only 455 permanently inhabited. Well, it seems like there is only one tiny little house on this island.

We had already traveled for many days when we boarded the boat of Finnlines. This beautiful bedroom felt like heaven. We had very little sleep and a lot of work. Therefore it felt like sleeping in feathers.

I'm convinced that Finnlines gave us a treat when they saw us boarding. We must have looked pretty miserable. But all our spirits returned when we saw this wonderful bed.

We rigged a little GoPro on the side of the ship and took some timelapses and pictures. The sun barely made it up the horizon and vanished quickly after few hours.

We want to encourage all Steemians to dare to travel to the extreme north also in winter. It's a total different universe than in summer. After a couple of days that might feel hardcore in terms of temperature, you will start to love this calm, silent world.

Have a great day!

Lovely photos, great scenery, and I will admire it from the warmth of my computer desk. I like blue sky and sunshine. But it is absolutely wonderful of you to brave the cold to share it with us so I don't have to.

Hi @andyfishman , thank you very much. I'm so happy you liked the photography.

I see you're a professional fisherman?

xx
@elenahornfilm

Obsessed maybe, professional, no. Sadly I do not make a living off it.

Would it be just as much fun if you made your living off it?

it would mean I could afford to go more places and catch fish, so yes, more fun it would be!

Beautiful pictures! I was wondering how long did you have normal daylight in the extreme north? Was it most of the time gloomy like in your pictures?

Hi, yes, it was. I think it never really gets light in December but in January there are already a couple of hours with a litttke bit of light like on the pictures.

Maybe, when there are no clouds it might become brighter.

Do you intend to travel there?

X

Looks like you guys had a great time, such a big island and only one little house, ghosh how that person must be living out there totally cut off from everything. I have never been to any of the Scandinavian countries, though I wish to travel soon :-)

Hello lovely @nainaztengra ,

that is a fantastic idea! Where would you go first? Denmark, Sweden, Norway or Finland?

xx
@elenahornfilm

Thanks for sharing your photos of Finland! I would love to go there!

Hi @kimmiecfields ,

it is absolutely worthwhile. It is a totally different country in the winter and in the summer!
