Mullerthall and Trier or the enchanted forest and medieval town

Earlier this month I visited Luxembourg and trier.

Normally, my boyfriend and I, we visit cities with a lot of culture, but this time we had just taken our exams and wanted a quiet holiday so we tried something new: Müllerthal. It’s a little village in Luxembourg, well known for its beautiful nature. We decided to go hiking there and enjoy the peace.

We followed the Enternach-mullerthall stage, which is about 10 kilometers long. Starting our walk, we could immediately hear water flowing and saw beautiful little waterfalls.

Further, we also encountered beautiful rocks. One of them was so narrow that you needed a flashlight to see where you were walking.

I have to say that in the beginning I wasn’t that excited to go hiking because I thought it would be boring but I did like it a lot! You are totally alone (almost literally) therefore you can hear every bird or crack of a twig and that’s such a unique experience for me because I live in a big city and it’s never quiet.

I could tell you more about our walk but you know what they say… a picture says more than a 1000 words.

After a day walking we decided to visit trier. It’s the oldest city of Germany and from the moment you are there, it’s like you’re back in time. Everywhere, are beautiful small houses in different colors. We saw “De Porta Nigra” which is one of the best preserved ancient Roman city gates north of the Alps. You can go to the top for 3 euros and have a and there you have a nice view over the old city center.

Right in front of the porta nigra you have “De Hauptmarkt” it is one of the most beautiful squares I have ever seen. If you close your eyes you could just imagine how it looked 100s of years ago.

A little further you find the Dom and I could hear you thinking… nah a church that isn’t that special but this one is actually totally different from all the others because it was expanded several times, making it a beautiful example of different architectural styles. The southern part of the Romanesque church was replaced by a Gothic Our-Ladies' church, which made the Dom an impressive double church.

Next, were the Keizerthermen and amphitheater. Honestly, It isn’t that interesting to see it because there is almost nothing to see except grass and a sign with a drawing illustrating how it used to look.

Last but not least we also walked past the royal palace. It’s small but magnificent!
