Kuala Sepetang ( 十八丁), previously known as Port Weld; named after former Governor, Frederick Weld; It's a fishing village located along the Sepetang river connected to the sea, this area periodic fresh and saltwater inundation suitable for mangrove trees hence provided rich ecosystem and important breeding ground for marine animals . It's about 18 km from Taiping town and driving normally took about half an hour. Along the way to Kuala Sepetang you can saw mangrove trees along the road ( it's actually Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve). Kuala Sepetang also famous for it charcoal make from mangrove trees, most of the high quality charcoal is exported to Japan.
I was having a chance to experience the river tour around the fishing village and enjoy the surrounding the village during Chinese New Year holidays two years ago. Along the cruise, not only can look at the view a long the Sepetang river, I was luckily that I can see the wildlife around this village too, especially the eagles. Actually, there is river cruise service available at night too for fire fly viewing a long the mangrove forest. But, I was not joining the cruise due to limited time.
Well, definitely I will be back for fire fly viewing, of course!
