This week instead of the usual Monday night trip, I attended a @steem-dublin meetup in The Duke pub in Dublin city center on Saturday Night.
The Irish Pub is an institution. To this day it is very much part of Irish life. Every aspect of life's journey is celebrated here, from wetting the baby's head to waking the dead. In recent times it has been (in)famous as a place where brown paper envelopes have been exchanged but also much loved for; the lockins, the stories, the music and the great craic. A version of the Irish pub has been exported all over the world and from Mozambique to Shanghai you can visit a "Molly Malones" or "Murphys". Each incarnation will have an Irish sounding name and be distinguished by Celtic writing above the door but there is no substitute for the real thing.
Join me as I visit some of the great pubs of Dublin, discover some secret watering holes, and help me bring Steemit to the masses!
The first post in this series will fill you in on why I have started this journey, The Irish Pub & A Dirty Old Town
The Duke of Duke Street
This watering hole has been providing liquid refreshments since 1822. In the 1890s the pub underwent a major renovation leaving a facade that has been largely preserved to this day. The pub is named after the second Duke of Grafton.
The Duke has enjoyed a distinguished association with the literary greats of the Irish Nation.
James Stephens, James Joyce, Oliver St. John Gogarty and Arthur Griffith breezed into the Duke regularly in the early days of the century when they wanted a quiet reflective jar.
In later years, the three great literary musketeers, Brendan Behan, Patrick Kavanagh and Myles Na gCopoleen

The Main Bar
The pub consists of 2 bars, one upstairs and one downstairs. This pub is usually quiet and relaxed with plenty of seating. It also does good food during the day.
Upstairs
The Meetup was held upstairs
where there was ample seating. This pub is a great location and will likely be the spot for future @steem-dublin meetups.
The bar man assured me the Guinness was just at good upstairs as downstairs.
The Literary Pub Crawl
Nowadays the organisers of the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl start their historic tour of Dublin at this establishment.
Ceol and Craic
Traditional music can be enjoyed every Sunday evening at 9pm until 11pm.

The Verdict
I am going to give a rating to each pub in this series based on the Guinness. There is a scale of 1-4, 4 is exceptional, 3 is very good and 2 is acceptable, 1 is muck.
The Duke gets a 3.
Join me to talk about Steemit.
Each week I will be visiting a new pub in Dublin. I am inviting anyone that is in Dublin to join me. If your new to Steemit and you want to learn more about it bring your laptop and we will get you set up. If your free on a Monday evening send me a message @eroche on Steemit Chat and I will let you know where I will be.
On my journey I also am also hoping to get at least one bar in Dublin to try STEEM as payment. You never know they might develop a taste for it. :)
You are likely to meet anyone in a Dublin Pub. From John F Kennedy to Barak Obama there have been 7 American Presidents spotted in Dublin Pubs. I am unlikely to get to talk to President Trump if he visits but if I meet any other celebrities in my travels I will be sure to introduce them to Steemit and get a Selfie.
Can't wait till next Monday!
If there is an Irish Bar near you, send me the name or a photo of the outside and I will include Irish Pubs from around the world in a monthly roundup.
“It's not that the Irish are cynical. It's rather that they have a wonderful lack of respect for everything and everybody.”
― Brendan Behan

Oh man, I'll be in Ireland from the 15th-22nd, so I'll miss that unfortunately. My mom will actually be travelling with me as well - she's finally coming to visit me in Europe, so we are going to travel around the country to a few different places. Haven't really planned much yet besides the flight though, so suggestions are welcome from any Irish Steemians!

Will do! Definitely want to see as much nature as possible. Thought maybe Cliffs of Moher, but then I hear there's some cooler and less crowded cliffs at Slieve League. Is that right? And Galway is supposed to be pretty cool, right? I'm also interested in heading up to Northern Ireland to see Giant's Causeway, etc.

I had never heard of Slieve League before this. Its in the North of the country, I know the south and west better.
The Cliffs of Moher are worth seeing, sure they are touristy but you will see not only the cliffs, but an area called the Burren that is quite unique and worth seeing in its own right.
I would base myself in Galway and do a few day tours to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher. You can also visit Connemara west of Galway, beautiful scenery.
The Giants causway is also great and worth the trip, there is also a whiskey distillery near it, Bushmills, that is worth visiting too.

P.S. - I'm usually looking for the craziest adventures possible, but with my travel partner it will probably be best not to go too crazy, maybe more like the stuff in my last post
