Omg I’m like soooooo tired after my week in Ibiza, I totally need a new vacation. Like I can’t even handle work now!
That is one of the most basic bitch things to say, but I’m gonna say it anyway!
I’m always super tired when I get back from a trip, and not because of any jet lag, but all the activities, socialising, working and the travelling part itself tire me out. I usually sleep the next day after I come back from any trip, and lazy around a few more days. I know I have a lot of new material waiting, so I can just work from my bed for a few days, like I’m doing now.
Having a holiday is how I afford to holiday
For me, as a full time Steemian, travelling is where I want to gather a lot of new material in terms of pictures and experiences to write about. Being in a new country and city is the easiest way to get inspired to shoot, everything you see is new and exciting. When I’m at home, I need to use a lot more imagination to find a different outlook on things to photograph.
I of course want to have the holiday experience too, go out, relax a little, drink and not keep up with work, but I can’t go full I-have-no-responsibilities -mode when I holiday. If I want to keep this lifestyle going, I need to do some serious work on my trips. I always try to balance my days so that I get some work in but also use most of my time to explore the new places. I’ve been really fortunate to travel and hang out with people who understand this and give me time to do posts in the mornings and evenings.
Travelling takes a toll on the body
I don’t know why, but these days I get quite nauseous on planes, trains and busses. I get dehydrated, too hot, too cold, tired and suffer from headaches. I am trying to eat and drink enough, but somehow I never really manage to balance everything out. I hate that I get motion sickness because I can’t use the hours I spend on public transportation to write new posts.
Having fun is exhausting!
On a day to day basis, I don’t socialise much other than on the interwebs, but when I travel, it usually includes a lot of social stuff. I really need to prep myself to be able to hang out with people around the clock, and especially if it’s for several days in a row. I often have a lot of fun, but it takes a toll on me and I get cranky fairly easily if I don’t have a chance to be by myself. I have been getting a little better in that regard as I have travelled more, but I still need my alone time after only a few days of being with people, no matter how fun they are.
In conclusion: travelling makes me tired, but happy!
ps. My lazy days after the holiday in Sweden are getting to an end and I have new things coming up next weekend so I need to put my big girl pants on and get my work done before new adventures.
You and @escapist have both done really well in the photography department.
I understand what you're talking about. I'm energized by social interaction and novelty but too much is too much. The European Go Congress, a two-week event with an open ten-day championship tournament and a host of side events, has always been the kind of even for me to want to rest at least for a few days and preferably a week without doing anything.

Work pays for things we agree
And rest is something that's free
So go to sleep if you must
But it is better if it's just
A nap. It'll be better, you'll see

Sweet sleepy face. 🤗😘 I know what you mean! I always need a vacation after my vacation. Travel is fun but damn tiring and disruptive to comfort and routine.

We have this saying in Finnish which roughly translates to: "Your own home is a strawberry, other places are blueberries", meaning that it's fun to visit new places but home is always the best :)

I know how it feels like. Even desperate sometimes. But just wait a week or so and everything will be fine. :)
