A Moose Enjoying The First Fruits Of Spring In Alaska

This young moose calf is exploring all the tasty morsels of spring as they pop up through the still deep snow of springtime in Alaska. Look at all those willow, birch, and maple buds just waiting for him to taste.  He is like a small child in a candy store. It is a fun time of year for this moose, just recently going out on his own. All winter long, food has been sparse, unless some kind cabin dweller or homesteader took pity and left an opened bale of hay just for him and his mother. Winter is a lean time of year and most animals get used to an empty stomach. But now spring is just around the corner.

If you are a photographer, then this is the perfect time to catch these true Alaskan natives out and actively looking for food. It is also a good time to catch the bears as they are just waking up and very hungry. All of the native animals are out and about, as everyone has had to tighten their belt during winter. Even though they find other areas that are not quite as brutal, Alaska is not all that kind in the winter.

If you want to enjoy Alaska as she wakes up, then spring is the best time of the year. Be assured though, Winter is still holding on in places. So come on up North and roam the valleys and the hills taking the most fantastic photos of the year, as the far North is just waking up from a long winters freeze.

Amazing photo. Thanks

I have been to Alaska and have seen the beautiful moose. They enjoyed walking around my brothers neighborhood, they are bigger than I thought.

If you cover it's face, the rest of it's body looks like a boar.
