The Streets of Antigua Guatemala

in travel •  6 years ago

In the beginning, the streets of Antigua Guatemala were dirt roads and in rainy seasons they became almost swamps, so walking through them became a real challenge both for pedestrians and for horse-drawn carriages.

Derived from this situation, there was a need to implement the paving system of the streets to prevent the surfaces from becoming impassable and to improve and facilitate the cleaning of the streets and squares.
The state of the cobbled streets endures as a feature in Antigua Guatemala, so when you visit it, the interesting history hidden under the feet of those who walk through the streets of the colonial city becomes evident.

And you have walked these streets?
