FireTravels #6—Roadtrip to Bangalore for the #2 India Steemit Accelerator!

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

The past week has been incredible but it also left me feeling drained. So I took some time off from writing to focus on some other aspects of my life. On the 30th of July, I organized the #2 India Steemit Accelerator in Bangalore and drove to the city with a couple of friends to execute it.

Approaching the dense and mighty Western Ghats!

We hit the road on Friday morning. I had my friends @sanjayjkamath and @rjsudeep join me on this trip. After an unexpected delay owing to a minor issue in my car which we got rectified quickly, we had a great time driving 400 kms into the IT hub of India.

Idli Vada with Sambar and Chutney. Breakfast at Mangalore. This is one of the best South Indian breakfast dishes!

Snaking through the Western Ghats, the national highway connecting my city of Mangalore with Bangalore is a busy highway. Parts of it is in a bad shape owing to the heavy rainfall in the region and truck traffic carrying heavy loads. But the rest of it is in a fantastic shape, worthy of a Supercar!

Beautiful roads that are being upgraded at the cost of some terrible deforestation.

Scraped my car in a few places no thanks to these potholes!

This was my longest drive after my accident in February and I was thrilled to undertake this journey. It's not often that I get to take a roadtrip with my friends so I felt we should hit the road instead of taking a quick flight!

A small stream in the forest!

We drove past Sakleshpur city, which is the only major town in the hills. The place is famous for its off-road trails, coffee plantations, estates, and wood work. You can find coffee plant carvings as well as these giant elephants made out of wood. The ones in these pictures sell for over 100,000 INR or $1500

We stopped at a well known veg-restaurant, 'Ossoor' that serves delicious local fare and had some Indian breads made out of Rice flour with chutney and pickles! It was delicious and not very heavy but it did make us a bit sleepy on the 2nd leg of our drive.

Once we had crossed over the hills into the plains, the roads were fantastic and butter smooth! It really made us wish that we were in a supercar as we were going flat-out in some areas as the roads were deserted and the freshly laid tarmac was ensuring a very smooth drive after the pot-hole ridden section we crossed earlier.

We entered the city by 4pm and drove to our friend @rjsudeep's house to drop him off and then we left to collect the memento. I wanted to give a memento to the Bosch's India head for Venture Capital. I think it turned out quite nicely with the Steem logo and the tagline for the India Steemit Accelerator! What do you think? I had placed an order over the week and it was ready for collection.

Empowering India With The Steem Blockchain!

With the last of my errands sorted, I booked a hotel room close to the venue for @sanjayjkamath and myself and we proceeded to get some rest for the day and meet with some friends later in the evening.

Dining with @bikergirl!

I was so hungry that I had a bite before I could take a picture!

My friend @bikergirl was in town and we met up for some dinner. But due to rain and confusion courtesy Google maps I had to walk about an hour to reach the restaurant she was at! It was a beautiful cafe but it shut down way too early. Luckily however we managed to grab some sandwiches and desserts before we were asked to leave.

@bikergirl's recommendation to get a Banoffee pie was great! It was delicious!

At the DYUART Cafe in Bangalore!

At the DYUART Cafe in Bangalore!

Candida dropped me back on her scooter to where my friends were at, and it felt great to be on a two-wheeler again after 7 months and feel the wind on my face!

I was still hungry so we had a round of cheesy chicken momos at the restaurant when I met up with @sanjayjkamath, @andreanoronha and our friend Vardhan. After an hour or so we came back to our hotel and called it a day!

The room was comfy and the WiFi worked. I had to catch up on some work and I got that quickly sorted out. We played some music on my bluetooth speaker and I dozed off listening to hotel california play on loop!

The next couple of days were great and I'll share that in my next post as well as the updates from the India Steemit Accelerator!

banoffee pie! :D

The pictures were really beautiful and the roads looked so amazing with it's rustic look.

@firepower - Bangalore is close to my heart since I have been visiting for the last 15 years. Though it has grown to be a little tiresome with the traffic from the quaint metro city it used to be, it still has its charm. Great to see pictures of the typical food that you could enjoy. The potholes in the road and the little water stream hidden in the forest ring a bell too. Great post. Wish I knew about the meetup. I have been traveling in very remote inland areas of the world and hardly had any decent coverage. I have, therefore been mostly out of touch except for one post which I could get posted today. Perhaps I have missed updates on the meetup. Thanks to your blog, I at least became aware. Upvoted.

I look forward to your next post @firepower, eagerly waiting for you to visit the North side of India to organize a steemit accelerator here. The roads is south are so much fun, I should plan a trip to Bangalore soon. :) Cheers

That sounds great @firepower unfortunately i couldn't attend the steemfest hoping to meet you people on next steemfest @naseerbhat ..

Super and all the best

Hi @firepower What a nice journey inside beautiful India. India is so big and has so many different environments it will take years to see it all. I always want to go back there and see other parts of the country. Thanks for sharing I get the taste of it again.

Is food in India really spicy? I should try that. I should go there. Thanks.

Food is spicy @joeyarnoldvn, but you'll never find food as delicious as in India. You must visit once.

@joeyarnoldvn Not always. India has so many different variants when it comes to food. But you can always ask the people who are preparing the food to make it more spicier and they would gladly do so :) Having lived in India for 26 years, I have not yet tasted even 1% of the cuisine the country has to offer. That should give you an idea of the vastness :)

Cool 😎 you look very happy with your gangs looking forward for next trip ☺️

Thanks for the fun time and great memories, @firepower! It was indeed a super awesome trip. Waiting for part 2 and probably part 3 of this post ;) So much more of the fun we had yet to be shared with your followers on steemit :)

Hoping for many more such memories :)

Lol those portraits ! Will Smith and some other dude I don't recognize :D

I think its Johnny Depp :D

Yes! It's Johnny Depp. Amazing yet funny portraits.

Oh @firepower, roadtrips with friends like this are just amazing! Great adventure indeed! I love Indian Cuisine and specially idli-sambar, I've done a lot when I was still in the hotel industry!
Looking forward for the other parts of your great adventure!
Cheers
@progressivechef

Pleasant trip. And I always have a "go getter" mentality, and I like creating opportunities. As a result, I usually have a million things in my mind. One of my biggest weaknesses is to stay focused and present in the conversation. My thoughts often wander because I am thinking about what I should do.

That looks like a lot of fun! I would love to go to India someday. It looks like there is definitely some fun to have!

Thank you so much for sharing! Upvoted and followed!

Cool photo!

It looked like a great trip for sure. You have managed a good event, I heard from a lot of participants. For that, a big congratulations to you. I am thinking to plan a meetup in Delhi because a lot of people are from Delhi and it's not convienient for them to travel to Banglore. I wanted to talk to you about it, but haven't replied to me on steemit.chat
Anyways, I am looking forward to setup a meetup just like that at the end of this month. Any help would be appreciated .
Thank you.

these are cool pix and a great project for Steemit's growth.

Un viaje de aventrua con muchas fotos de buena calidas. me gusta

As always very nice post with clear and lovely pictures. Seems like you guys had a lovely trip, the green landscapes are beautiful, I bet the air is fresh and crisp. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us :)

Beautiful scenery! It looks like you needed a 4x4 on some of those roads though.

Thanks a lot for sharing your adventure. This nice place you were at really makes you forget all the daily challenges people faces. Especially the place with the stream. Again thanks and look forward to other nice pictures of places.

I wish I could visit India some day. I've learnt something things about them through watching their movies. This is lovely @firepower.

Um | Looking at food makes me hungry!

Followed you for more. You did have an amazin trip. I am glad for you and sorry to read about your accident in February. Take care !

Now I want to go to India! 😍

Thanks for share something so wonderlful, @firepower.

You guys looks made a great trip there, you really enjoy it. Keep going on other trips and share beautiful pictures like this with us.

It's a great post . In a word it's awesome post from all the sides.

Simply great.... The joy and success of this trip can be seen in your eyes :)

I have just been to Kerala and it was incredibly fun and intense! Nice to hear about your travel, maybe next time I shall try Bangalore :) Upvoted and following!

Hey @firepower! Good to see you and some of the guys from the accelerator here!

It was one of the best things I did last month! Can only say good things about it. Well done!! :)

Awesome man! Thanks for the Steemit Accelerator, I travelled 1000 kms from Mumbai-to-Banglore alone in train. :) I also had made my journey post which you can check on my Steemit Blog and some of the show notes from my simple note taken at the event. Let me know if I had written anything wrong in the post so I can make necessary changes.

I missed such an awesome chance for a road trip * sob *
Next time, kidnap me if you have to 😂 @firepower, @rjsudeep, @sanjayjkamath
You had taken more pics right? At Wow Momos ?

The banoffee pie is a really yummy Irish dessert... yumm

Nature of India is almost the same as in Aceh, but India is very wide, and its cities are very advanced. thank you @firepower

Wow great post, I feel road trip is the best as far as India is concerned as you can able to see so many things and experience will be one of a kind.

I read one of your recent post in which you told about your accident, and how even when you were on bed, you made it huge on Steemit. You are inspiring person, and it is nice to read about your ride from Manglore to Banglore. Wish you good luck and health.

Beautiful... the views and food pictures

Fantastic post! Wow I've never seen forest like that... What skill it must take to carve those wooden elephants. Those dishes, especially the pie looked so good! Thank you for your hard work!

Having a trip and that to with the foot hills of western ghats and most importantly in rainy season, a traveler always aspire for , i like the way you present even a simple thing, and that is what a blogger particularly a whale in steemit makes the different, leaving always room for us to learn.

Looking nice! I'm happy to see you're having a lot of fun there!
I miss Indian breakfast!

Enjoy your trip!

once again I feel like being with you guys enjoying the trip. The last time I was with you was at the Japanese cafe. just joking...Your way of describing your experience is amazing and i love it.

Nice pics!

Beautiful landscapes and gorgeous pics! Have a great day and enjoy your travel!

@kam.ila

good story

Really a nice journey with best friends! The scenery in the countryside looks unspoiled and very green. I was struck by the quality of the 'butter smooth' roads in India. I wish most of the motor ways in my country are so smooth. Usually, newly constructed roads would remain smooth without potholes for less than a year! Keep up the good work!
Wishing that we'll have some STEEEMIT group acceleration here one day.

Wonderful blog, I upvoted you and followed you.

Nice one bro. You must have enjoyed yourself all through. I like travelling most especially by road because i love sight seeing. It helps to develop my creative and it usually shows in write-ups. One day i will like to come to India (precisely Mumbai). I heard is a good place to visit.
Will like to follow and as well up vote you. Seems you really have a lot to share. Still very new on this platform (growing). You read some of my post maybe you will be get one or two things there. You also follow @optimistdehinde. Thanks

You were certainly in a vibrant area, love the photos! Cheers! I'll be following your travels :)

Those "idli and vada" is making me jealous...south indian dish is my favourite all time and in fact that suits to my health. I have roam around many parts of India and we can have south indian dishes everywhere but the south indian toouch can only be experienced in south india.......and as far as the trip is concerned... those western ghats in the month of "sawan" is really awesome. Thanks

Nice post ;) The food looks amazing ! I would love to have some Idli as well ;) It was my favorite South Indian dish. Those elefant statues are totally stunning too :)
