Rome: Trevi Fountain. Stories told by a local.

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Rome is part of me and it sometimes feels like I never left.

The atmosphere, the not-politically correct people, the food, the fashion and the lifestyle are simply unbeatable.

Of course home is home and any expat feels the same towards their home town.

Even if I have been home 10 times in 8 years (most people go back every 2-3 years) I always fear I might not be able to go back again.

That is why I have a little tradition to go and throw a coin in the Trevi fountain on my first day of my stay there. This fun ritual comes from a legend that says that throwing a coin from the right hand over the left shoulder will ensure that you will return to Rome in the future.

It is also one of my favorite spots in the city because it is located in the heart of busy Rome but the loud sound of the water falling and hitting the statues is very relaxing. And when the sun shines it is pure magic, especially before 9 am when there are no tourists around and you actually take decent pictures.

And don’t fear about all the money in the fountain going wasted. It is actually collected once a week and used to feed those in need. image image

INDEED :-)

right? I saw a few clips about it and I really hope that is true (as I have not personally witnessed the fountain being drained and emptied of all the coins)
