Sometimes nature can inspire mystical horror without human intervention. In the world there are not one dozen natural objects with the word "dead" in the name. There is also such a place in Belarus - the Dead Lake, which is part of the Blue Lakes complex in Myadelsk. An eerie name of the reservoir was due to the fact that it almost completely lacks life.
Nearby forests are also famous for the oppressive emptiness, animals are very rare here. Local residents explain this state of things with ancient curses and eerie legends about flooded cities. Scientists are far from mysticism, according to them, the lake's mortality is explained by the large amount of hydrogen sulphide in the water, and also by the almost complete lack of circulation between water layers at depth. And the forest surroundings are empty because of a simple reason - the animals have nothing to profit from on the lake shore, so they bypass the Dead Lake side.
