Fishing in Louisiana is one of the most rewarding trips you can experience! The best place to fish is in Grand Isle, which is where we caught about three of these sting rays and a bunch of other fish that filled our stomachs that evening.

But sometimes we didn't like taking the drive so if you're in the New Orleans area, get a day pass and head out to Lake Pontchartrain! New Orleans literally is on the shore of this lake so it's less than ten minutes to get to it no matter where you are in the city. This is is my second favorite fish to eat, the Black Drum and is also the hardest fighting fish in the water pound for pound.

In a matter of a couple of hours, bottom fishing with shrimp, you can catch lunch or dinner for you and your buddy! Best way to eat it is deep fried though. Yum!

This was my favorite spot, in Kenner. They have a nice pier that the fish will bite all night at but they don't start until about 9pm so bring your ice chest and stay a while! Seriously, we used to stay until 2 in the morning and there would be at least twenty people still out there with radios and beer.

Sometimes you catch some big trophies! This is my favorite fish to eat, the Red Drum, otherwise known as a Red Fish.

Best part about this lake is that it's brackish water, which is a combination of salt and fresh water so you get a lot of fresh and salt water fish. This is a Catfish (Sail Cat) and is especially delicious!

Be careful if you catch this SOB. This thing dates to prehistoric times and is called an Alligator Gar. Don't Touch It!!!! Their scales are serated, they will bite your finger off and they can breathe air and water so you can't leave it there to die. If you plan on eating it, you need to hit it over the head with a hammer. If you want to throw it back, grab some pliers and pick it up by it's tail bone. Did I say to be careful? They get up to 7 feet long!!!

Of course, you can catch fish anywhere in Louisiana, even in the canals. I actually have better luck catching Bass in the canal than in the parks. Go figure!

But my favorite place to fish is out on the open water, either in a kayak....

....or just, in the water!

Looks like great fun man. If I ever visit Louisiana, I'll be sure to go fishing in Grand Isle. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, thanks for viewing. I'll give you another tip. It's two hours from New Orleans. Show up for midnight and fish until 5am. On a good night you'll limit out in two hours. Once 5am shows up, the dolphins show up and scare everything away.

You should definitely give Cocodrie, Dulac or Pointe-aux-chene a try... In my personal experience, the fishing is much better...
