Do you feel someone holding you back and block you way to move on? Or do you feel your job/your study/your health etc not going smoothly and well in 2017? New year is coming and we all need to be better and make some changes. Do you think about going to Ngo Keng Kiu(鵝頸橋)in Causeway Bay for changing your life? haha

What you only have to do when you approach the old ladies is Just tell one who the person holding you back is and she’ll light some incense, make cut-outs of a paper tiger and beat the ‘petty person’ out of your life with her or your shoe. They will keep saying some words to curse the person you wanna target to until this part of ceremony is done.

It wasn't surprised, 'Petty Person Beating' has been preliminarily included in the list of "intangible cultural heritage" by the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau, and was selected as "Best Way to Get It Off Your Chest" in TIME magazine's 2009 "Best of Asia". So that's why so many tourists go there and experience it once when they first come to Hong Kong.

Actually Hong Kong is still a city full of superstitious beliefs even you see how westernize this city. As a citizen here, I am happy that Government is willing to save some historical buildings e.g. Nit Shing Kung and Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Street in Sheung Wan, Murray House in Stanley... These buildings and traditional culture can be kept till now all because so many locals speak out and use action to tell HK government how important to keep our culture to our next generation and to the world. Otherwise HK is just like a dying city covered by traffics, tall business buildings, fancy shopping malls and different estates.

No matter you believe Petty Person Beating or not, it's just a way to make us feel better mentally. If it works on you, why not? Otherwise, just see it as an old tradition that we need to protect and respect.

Hope you guys have a better year without fears, troubles and sadness. Just commit to your life with love and respect. Life is too short so let's set a goal for 2018 and make the best one ever! Or when you are pissed or mad, just do what the little black ninja does to release your stress!!

Much Love,
Gladys

Haha this is the best blog ever. Great job love! Don’t tell Patty to beat me out of your life! 🤦🏻‍♂️😁🙏🏻

Haha never think about it so don't worry! 😂

Hong Kong must be one of the must interesting cities - modern world and tradition, history and link to China, Portugal, UK - would love to go there once.

Yeah you are right @uwelang! Here is an interesting city with so many different cultures. 'East meets West" - what we have taught from the school since being a kid. I am always happy that I was born before HK returned to Chinese Government. It's unique experience! Macau was under Portugal government before. If you go there, the old buildings there are still having Portuguese style:)

Thanks for sharing this story.

Hi Gladys, this is rather a story that I wasn't surprised at. I am from Malaysia and as a Chinese, I know exactly how it works. I've seen the tradition like this being passed down the generations even in major cities like Kuala Lumpur or even here in Singapore. I totally agree that traditions should be preserved because they are here because someone believed in it. If we don't even play our role to keep the tradition going by even sharing it, it will be diminished like the ashes in the air one day. Soon, people are going to regret that why haven't we done anything to it. As my life philosophy says, travels make a person wiser! That the reasons why I never ever going to stop travelling in anytime! Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks @explorenations for leaving a sweet comment here! The city changes too fast because the government said that it's necessary for developing but obviously it's wrong. How many of tourists love to see old history of a city? That's government are too blind to see. I love travelling too. It keeps my brain fresh and makes understand the world more. We can't always stay in a cage and never leave otherwise what we think we see are limited. Wish you all the best ! Cheers xo
