Safranbolu was a city named Dadibra (Dadybra) in the case of the fortune-teller in the Byzantine Paflagonya state before the Turkish domination.The Ottomans took Safranbolu in 1392 during the time of Yıldırım Bayezid.

Safranbolu is an exemplary city that reflects all the characteristics of traditional Turkish society and protects it in its environmental heritage that it has created in its historical past.
This rich cultural heritage, which it possesses, has been taken on UNESCO's list of 'WORLD HERITAGE CITY' due to its conservative success at the city scale.
