Travel memories - Visiting a cheese factory in Savoie, France

in travel •  7 years ago

In travel, everyone has his or her preferences. For some it will be hotels, restaurants, regional kitchens, buildings, parks, museums. For my part, I prefer nature, landscapes, especially mountain landscapes.

I like to see how man has shaped the landscapes, the techniques he used to master the nature or the techniques used to adapt to his environment. How has man used the material he has to meet his survival needs?

When visiting Savoie, with its mountain landscapes, you will find these elements: how to explain the style of construction of these dwellings that cling to the mountain, how the inhabitants of these regions have developed livestock farms for millennia.

Having already been a cheese maker ... I could not miss the opportunity to visit the Beaufortain cooperative and see how the Savoyards make the famous Beaufort cheese already known in Roman times!

The Beaufort is an AOC cheese, that is, controlled designation of origin, belonging to a well-defined area and makes raw milk of cows of abundance and tarin. It is a paste cooked, pressed and refined.
