In front of Gwanghwamun, the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace are two animals with their eyes wide open and looking ahead.
They are neither tigers nor lions. They are the animal called Haetae

Currently, They stand on the left and right of Gwanghwamun gate.

According to ancient records, Haetae is an imaginary animal with the ability to judge good and evil.

Haetae had horns on his head, and when he saw someone who was not right, he attacked with his horns.
Haetae was built to warn officials to act properly in accordance with law and justice.

They are friends of people.

Haetae standing here is a very good match. Because Haetae is friends of people, also the guardian of justice
