About 180 years ago, "Khasi elders" devised a different solution. Rubber tree roots were guided in hollow canes of Areca nut palm to meet halfway across the stream.
The roots were tended to and patiently nurtured for years until they slowly reached the opposite bank, forming the skeleton that eventually grew into a bridge capable of carrying a human’s weight.

Khasi's follow a matrilineal culture, where the husband moves to the wife’s village after marriage. Children take on the mother’s surname.

Mauling Village

The meaning of "Mauling" is "God's Own Garden". In 2016 The Village nominated for cleanness. No Dirt & Mud has been found in this Village. Every home is attached to a garden. Looks like you have come to a village of the fairy tale. At the entrance of the tourist spot inside the village, every car will have to pay a 1 dollar ticket. they claim that it will be spent in the cleaning of their village.

now, let's talk about the Root Living Bridge. Nobody knows about the time of construction of bridges with roots from Shnongpdeng, Nongbareh, Khonglah, Padu, and Kudeng Rim etc. in the forests spreading through the villages. In 1844, Lieutenant H. Eulle wrote the description of this forest first in 'Journal of Asiatic Society'. It takes 15 years to build the bridge.
