Blog #51: The return after quitting a job?!

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

The hardest part about quitting a job and traveling is actually the return. When you let people know of your decision, you will realize there are two kinds of people. The people who fully support your decision and people who think it was a very dumb decision. My boss is one of second type. :))

Quitting a job is not a smart decision actually

When I told my boss that I would travel and I needed to quit job to prepare for it. He did not say anything but all I saw in his face was “helpless”, like he totally gave up telling me.

My boss is a good mentor, full of skills, especially in term of making contract. When he offered me to be his assistant, I was expected to be someone he would teach all skills and replace him to deal with contract in law firm. He believed in me that I would be the best one, always be strict with me but after that encourage me. He spent 5 months to train me. I have just learned something, have just had enough experience to handle it myself. Then I decided to quit due to the urge of South America Trip. He asked me “So how long will you be there?” “Two months”. He stopped wanting to invest in me.

You cant just pick up and leave, and expect your life to be filled with only happy moments. There are going to be problems to matter where you are.

Worries about the return

I admit that I felt a bit worry about “the return”. I will start again in my field or I will interest in another area? Is it too late to start one more time?

But I strongly believe that I will come back as a different person. I will not take my problems to another place and keep being stuck. I know it is not about where I am, but who I am and what choices I make.

It will be hard I know, but I can also discover how good I can handle difficult situations. I will learn to surprise myself, get more confidence in problem solving and meeting people. I know it is an experience of a lifetime that I will never want to miss, then I do it with all of my bravery and hope.

It's never too late to start one more time. Although, I'm in the first group who supports your decision...so maybe I'm crazy :)

the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, didn't ya?

Hope you will like your new job :)

kinda sad story really, good luck on your trip

Most of people might be similiar with you. Myself also I can not quit my job even if I wanted something else to do sometime. Cheers.

usefull information.i love this post

probably your boss had envy or did not want to you quit the job.

It is always hard to be adjusted at a new office or to even to return back to your original place and start taking your responsibilities. In our local language, it is said that the size of a moving rock always decreases. So stay at one place and enjoy

e cho a hoi chueyn steem len san ton bao nhiu phi vay. thanks e

I'm unsure how old your boss is but it could be because of the way he was brought up. Especially the baby boomer generation, I feel like majority of them are very hard working and don't see travel as part of something they want in their life. He has also spent a long time investing in you and seeing you grow, so he may just be very heartbroken that you will be gone.

Although, I do feel like a great boss would support you in what YOU want to do and you shouldn't let people stop your actions. Follow your dreams!

Regarding your return. Think about it when the time comes. Who knows what might happen during your trip. You might think you like your current field but actually come across something different (as you mentioned).

I hope the best for you and following to find out more about your trip :)
