Just a short drive past Swansea on the A4118 you'll come across the beautiful Gower Peninsula - the very first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK, designated the award back in 1956.
Typical 'Staycation' destinations in the UK are usually Devon or Cornwall bound, and I thought I'd make a post showcasing a (somewhat) hidden gem of the UK.
Hope you enjoy the read!
For what seems like the past decade my family has always ventured to Llangennith on holidays, and being just under a four-hour-long drive from my hometown of Salisbury, I'm lucky to have such a beautiful place just on my doorstep; just look at the picture above!
The natural environment varies dramatically in Gower: finding sandy beaches that you'd expect to see somewhere a bit further south, and then jagged limestone cliffs nestled amongst moors full of wild heather and wildlife!
The Peninsula receives some of the best waves in Britain coming off the North-Atlantic and Irish Sea (obviously probably not up to the Cornwall standard - but still pretty considerable!) and Llangennith's beach (Rhossili Bay) has been voted the best beach in Britain numerous times. There's much more to the area on dry land too - and my family's four dogs absolutely love the open moors and various dog-walking routes that it has to offer.
The village of Llangenith is our most popular holiday destination, but there are many, many more places that thousands of people decide to visit every year.
People spend hundreds, if not thousands, on plane tickets and all-inclusive holidays to various countries across the globe only to sit by the side of a pool or in a cramped hotel room. A lot of the UK overlook what the nation has to offer, and relatively inexpensive stay-at-home holidays often become the best ones. Holidays are for experiencing something new and forming memories; I certainly wouldn't remember sunbathing by the side of a noisy pool having paid far too much for a terrible hotel room I wouldn't want to sleep in.
Just step back and think before you book your next holiday and whether it should involve a plane journey or not.
A great location for a holiday indeed. I spent my university days in Swansea and it was always a pleasure to visit that area

wow!! just WOW!
What an incredible view, such great photos and amazing formats that get formed with water and sand!
I love especially the first one! I can only image the view you have from the very top of the peninsula.
