This week was an exciting one full of many firsts. First trip to the Olympics. First visit to Asia. And most special, watching our cousin compete in her first Olympic games in skeleton!
Our whole family - aunts, uncles, cousins - traveled to South Korea for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. We flew into Seoul and packed into a van for the trek to PyeongChang, already in the spirit in our red, white, and blue :)
We lucked out with the weather while we were there. Yes, it was below freezing and a shock to the system for these Californians, but the sun was out and the high winds that caused a lot of the earlier events to be postponed had died down. We were surprised there wasn't a ton of snow on the ground.
The first event we watched was women's slalom. Pictures can't do justice to how STEEP the course is. With general admission tickets, we were able to walk up a series of platforms for the closest views of the course and finish line:
Here's a look back at the main grandstand. In the left section we spotted the North Korean cheerleaders and had to go over for a closer look.
Day 1 was a memorable intro to the games, and we eagerly anticipated watching skeleton the next day....Day 2 to come.
Happy to answer any questions about traveling to the Olympics!
