The lava desert at Kilauea

in travel •  7 years ago

Years of eruptions at Kilauea have formed a lava desert. As you drive (or hike) around the volcano, you'll see fields of lava where all the vegetation was destroyed.

But evidence of life appears even in the most barren places. The lava makes a clean slate for new growth

That plant is a real survivor out there 💪

Wow, this is awesome! By the way....do I have to upload images separately on the net and then link them into my textbox to post more than one image at once?!

Plantation in desert is possible but Plantation at such places, I cant imagine, its really miracle of God, how could the plant get useful nutrients and water from a rock formed by lava.

Rainwater I'm guessing, running over and through the lava

a very interesting post @hilo

It depends where you go. In most of the lava fields that are decades old, the forest is coming back. In the newer lava flows or the base of the (active) caldera, there isn't much of anything. You can, more-or-less, distinguish the older and newer lava fields by how much, and what kind of, vegetation has come back.

It is a beautiful picture that horror is hidden.

Look like Beauty but actually is the Beast.. Nice picture

great photo's. I just loved your description about life surviving in Barron conditions. The contrast between the little bit of green and all the black is strangely beautiful.

Your picture really captures that life can exist in the most resilient places!
