Iran, Damavand city (Damavand Mount); Don't just visit BIG cities in a country!

Those who travel to SEE places, and by seeing, I mean feeling, sensing and really experiencing, know this for sure, they shouldn't leave a country just visiting mega cities and big names in it.

The real beauty of a nation, is lied beneath the very intact culture of it, which mostly can be found in other cities than the capital and large industrialized cities.

Welcome to Damavand, a city with 4000 years of history, and the cradle of mount Damavand, with 5610 meter altitude.

Many Tehrani citizens travel, camp or go for a short piknik to Damavand region, north east of Tehran. They escape Tehran indeed! Among the most known destinations in Damavand region are Mosha and Absard. Mosha is in Haraz road to Chalous and north of Damavand city, while Absard is in Firouzkouh road to Amol roughly south of Damavand city (few kilometers passing Gilavand city)

The Mount Damavand has a huge influence on Iranian culture, poetry and literature. Many poets like Ferdowsi and Bahar, have inspired by this mount and used it in their epic poems. Also many Iranian painters like Kamal ol-Molk, have created art master pieces inspired by this mount.

How to get there?
you can travel to Damavand from Tehran, it's a one hour trip by car. Buses are also available at lower cost. (tickets around 6 USD)

Climate
as we talked about the altitude of the city and the mount, it is obvious this city enjoys very pleasant summers and very cold winters. So be prepared for the weather.
it is very recommended to not plan for climbing the mount without local guides or enough professional experience in climbing.
