Deserts that are not really desertssteemCreated with Sketch.

The deserts occupy almost a third of the surface of the Earth, but only 41 countries of the Earth (a fifth part) lodge all the deserts of this planet. This excludes a considerable number of states without one. There are a lot of areas that do not have these geographical anomalies warm and dry, but that still call a sandy or arid place a "desert" and turn it into a tourist attraction. These are any of the most significant pseudo deserts in the world.

Desert of Maine

The Maine Desert is a 40-acre portion of exposed glacier sand in a pine forest in the city of Freeport, Maine, United States. The "desert" is not just a true desert, the "sand" is not real, but a substance similar to the sand that was underground at one time or another during the last ice age, until it is exposed. The mud would have been hidden underground if the Tuttle family had not decided in 1797 to cultivate the land. The family had terrible agricultural practices. The absence of crop changes, combined with soil management and overgrazing, has led to soil erosion and exposure of the dune to glacial silty mud. The initially exposed strip of sand gradually extends and extends beyond the entire farm. After all, the turtles had to leave the country in 1919. An enterprising man named Henry Goldrup bought the farm for $ 300 and turned it into a tourist attraction in 1925. Today, the site is protected as a natural wonder, a Gift shop, a sand foundation and a farm museum.

DESERT OF OSOYOOS

At the southernmost corner of the beautiful Okanagan Valley is a dry perennial meadow, popularly known as the only desert in Canada. In the area of Osoyoos and the lake of the same name, there are 100 rare plants and 300 creatures that live in this Okanagan area, which is not found anywhere else in the country. Osoyoos has a semi-arid climate with wet and dry days in summer and very mild days in winter. Lake Osoyoos is the warmest freshwater lake in Canada and never freezes in winter. The Osoyoos Desert Center offers tours that will introduce visitors to desert ecology, habitat restoration and the conservation of endangered ecosystems in the south of Okanagan.

Rangipo Desert

The desert of Rangipo is an arid region of New Zealand that looks like a desert, although it has received many spots of rain due to the poor quality of the soil, the dry winds and the massive sterilization of seeds during a series of years. If Massive eruptions about 20,000 years ago. The vegetation is low and sparse and consists mainly of tufts of grass and snow. The upper part of many small streams, which later become large rivers, traverse deep, jagged valleys through unconsolidated ash and pumice-rich soils. The climate is hard, especially in winter, characterized by heavy snowfall and frost on the ground.

The Highlands of Iceland

The highlands of Iceland, which cover most of the interior of the country, are an uninhabitable volcanic desert. Waterfalls when rain or snow penetrates the ground so fast that it is not available for plant growth, resulting mainly in the gray, black or brown earth, lava, and volcanic ash.

ACCIONA DESERT

The Accona desert is a semi-arid region of Tuscany, Italy, characterized by vaulted formations known as Bianca. This natural clay, known as Mattison, represents the Pliocene sediments that covered the part 2.5 to 4.5 million years ago. This open, almost plant-free area is called the Accona Desert since the Middle Ages.

Błędów Desert

The Błędow desert lies between Błędow and the village of Klucze in Poland. With an area of 32 km², it is the most significant accumulation of free sand of any sea in Central Europe. It is only a fifth of the size of the 1950s. It was so large that visitors here reported morbid fate and sandstorms. Until the Middle Ages, the entire region was covered with forests that grew in large areas of thick layers of sand deposited by the water of the melting glaciers. The situation changed in the 12th century when people had to clean their local forests to meet the needs of the Olkusz lead and silver foundries. Massive deforestation has exposed the sand that now covers the region.

Oleshky Sands

The Oleshky Sands, also known as the Oleshky Desert, is a vast area of sand in the interior of the Ukrainian Black Sea coast. The sands, which stand located near the lower reaches of the Dnieper, have existed for many centuries, but the desert continued formed relatively recently. This sandy area moved once covered with vegetation and vegetation that prevented the sand from spreading. But in the 19th century, a sheep producer brought a million sheep to this land, with the intention of converting the area into a natural reserve. Soon, the animals ate all the grass that exposed the underlying sand. Due to wind erosion, uninhibited sands have conquered new areas, and the desert has spread rapidly.

Like all deserts, the Oleshky sands have their oases, dry and wet lakes and dunes 5 meters high covered with grasses and shrubs. Sandstorms are known in these areas. Prevent the entire Black Sea region from becoming a top dessert in the 20th century; artificial forests have been planted in the sand. Today, these forests cover 100,000 hectares and are one of the most extensive artificial forests in the world.

Carcross Desert

The Carcross desert lies outside from Carcross, Yukon, Canada and is usually considered the least desert in the world. It measures approximately one square mile or 2.6 square kilometers or 640 acres. It is not a real desert, only a large bed of sand created when the last ice age, when large glacial lakes formed and mud created. When the lakes dried up, the dunes were left behind. Today, it comes mainly from nearby Lake Bennett, transported by the wind. The dunes contain the wide variety of shops, including unusual species such as Lake Baikal curry and Yukon lupine.

The Carcross Desert is a popular tourist destination and is very popular with locals who enjoy recreational activities in the dunes, such as sandboarding. Tour groups also use the area for off-road excursions, which are allowed in the fine-grained dunes. Other summer pursuits include hiking including mountain biking. In winter, the city does mainly use for cross-country skiing and snowboarding.
