I recently visited Tarkwa Bay Resort with a group of friends. It was a holiday trip to mark to end of a successful year. I had no idea I was going to have a fun filled time at such a beautiful resort.
The blissful Tarkwa bay beach is located some kilometers offshore away from the ever busy Lagos Island. While cruising to the island on a boat, you will be treated to amazing views of popular spots in Lagos such as the Radisson Blu hotel, the Lagos Yacht Club, the Lagos harbour and straight head on into the atlantic ocean.

We took a speedboat from Marina, Lagos and that was my first time of being on a ferry in my life. The ride cost N2,000 per person (a round trip) and lasted for about twenty minutes. It was the most thrilling ride I have ever had and I was a bit dizzy when we arrived at the beach.
This was the first stop where we changed into something more appropriate for the beach. Entry into this booth cost N100.
I noticed there were lots of kids, locals, foreigners, goats and dogs. There was so much life around.

They were swimming, surfing, building sandcastles and other water sports.

Unlike most of the beaches I have been to in Lagos, Tarkwa Bay is pretty portable. This makes it very suitable for intimate evenings. I walked from one end to the other and I wasn’t tired at all.

They don’t sell food at the beach but it was not a problem as we went there with lots of food & drinks.
However, I saw a couple of traders hawking coconuts, biscuits and travel souvenirs. It’s thereby advisable to pack a picnic when visiting.

We spent some hours before leaving.

IMPORTANT TIPS:

• Go with a waterproof beach bag.
• You are better off going with your drinks even though these are sold on the beach.
• Make sure you establish the price of anything and everything beforehand. It’s custom to haggle, so know that they may try to overcharge you.
• Be prepared to rent beach chairs and covers, just try not to over pay.
• Don’t forget items such as towels, balls, floating pads etc.
• Avoid sun burns and remember to go with a sunscreen.
• Pack light as you will need to keep your personal items close to avoid theft.

Will I be going for another visit? Yes, If I get the opportunity. Next Beach on my mind is Whispering Palms, or Eleko Beach. Hopefully before the year runs out.
