#Fish: Sardines; This is what I was talking about - when we get lucky

in travel •  6 years ago

TODAY was a lucky day for most people living in the small town I work in, thousands of tiny sardines were brought into shore, causing hundreds of people to flock to the ocean to get their share of the fun and fish.

Here are some of the photos.

Wow, what a great catch! I remember when I helped some local fishermen in Vietnam and we had a huge team to pull the giant net back to shore. We were pretty empty handed besides giant jellyfish and tiny crabs.

How where the fish brought to shore? Nets? I see what looks like fishing poles in some of the photos...

Nets were used yes. A good couple of years ago the fish would literally land on the beach, now they are brought in by nets. The people fishing are trying to catch other fish, not sardines. Sardines are bait fish so predator fish are more commonly found once the sardines arrive.

That is pretty awesome...
