Yes, chocolate hills it is!

It was summer time last year when we were able to see the bizarre and awe-inspiring landscape of one of the most famous tourist attraction in Bohol, the Chocolate Hills. We were so astounded as of how uniform they are in shapes, like wow!

Accordingly, there are 1,776 estimated hills scattered over the landscape and are 30 to 50 meters in height of most of the hills. And yes, they are quite numerous! When we were there, we were on a high part of the place where we can see almost all of the hills, but not as higher that we can see where the hill formation ends. It was like infinite :D

There are many theories and legends of how they were formed, but accordingly up to this day even geologist have not reached consensus of how really they were formed.

One legend deemed is that that a young giant, Arogo, fell in love with a mortal girl named Aloya. When she died, he wailed and wailed until his tears covered the landscape and turned into hills. How wonderfully and tragically romantic.

But one of the most accepted theory is that they are the weathered formations of a kind of marine limestone on top of an impermeable layer of clay.

What makes these formations more special is that they change their colors! At the end of the dry season, the hills turn chocolate brown. At other times, the hills are green. Since we went here during march, which is our summer season here in the Philippines, they quite look as chocolaty browny.

So yeah, Chocolate Hills, everyone!
