In and around Le Marais, Paris October 2017

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

The first time we stayed in Le Marais in 2014, we promised ourselves to come back. It took a few years, but this time, we aim to have a good time and that's what we have had. Le Marais was a feast to the eye each day and I surely recommend it to anyone visiting Paris.

Live like the locals

Attending a seminar at that time, I thought what a better way to do that than to stay in an airbnb? I somehow don't get this vibes when staying in a hotel. The personal touch is just not there, plus the thought of having a HOME FEEL to staying in one's home. With so much to choose from, a high end home is also possible. Based from the airbnb site, either affordable or luxurious homes can be rented out if so one desires.

This is Paris! La Boheme!

My friend tagged along then, so while i was in my conference, she was either strolling and shopping on her own, around Le Marais. Her boyfriend then lived just outside Paris, so meeting up with him was no issue. As it was already afternoon when I finishes with the conference, our times were spent walking along the River Seine, before or after dinner. Le Marais was perfect for us as it's a walking distance to the River and the surrounding Latin Quarter and St. Germaine du Pres. It is here where one feels secure strolling the neighbourhood in whatever time of the night.

It definitely won over staying in Monmarte!

Le Marais

Noted as the French nobility's favorite place of residence from the 16th to the 18th century, the houses and buildings were built like palaces with great facades and architecture. But before this time, Le Marais literally means "the swamp".

Known since medieval times as “The Swamp,” Le Marais is a museum of architectural styles.

Beautiful and grand houses can be found all over Paris, but there's none compared to Le Marais. Each street is lined with architectural buildings, with some designer boutiques, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Luxurious homes have been converted to hotels and private flats over shops remain lived-in or rented out. Cafes, restaurants and bars are full of people till dawn. Interestingly, the shops were closed last monday in Le Marais but were open during the weekend.

As we have stayed along la rue Turenne, and this time along la rue Poitou, along these areas are well-recommended to stay. Museums like Picasso and Pompidou Centre can also be found in the neighbourhood.

Strolling through Le Marais is more than just the physical experience of putting one foot before the other and taking in the visual pleasures along the way. --Patrick de Belioux

Be mindful of your steps, for when you step out of your accomodation, on staring at each building in every street, it will be difficult to tear your eyes away.

A poissonnerie along la rue Turenne.

Oh, I didn't mention our favorite seafood restaurant, did i? Why don't i just take you there?!!

Yeah..we did the one-day tour. Wanna go back to St. Paul's as we didn't stay long enough. We left Nice one day before that incident in July last year. We left for Carcasonne then to Lourdes as our flight back home was in Toulousse.

Thanks for sharing.....I like the quaintness of the smaller French cities. And the food is making me hungry now.

France do have have lots of quaint towns and villages. As for food, it's only their croissant that's good. Of course, fresh seafoods are very much accessible..and so is the Philippines.

Fresh croissant with their cheeses....wow.

All you need is a croissant and coffee. Which cheese?

I have to go Gouda ...but they have 100's that would be perfect :-)

Gouda??? Am just happy with emmental lolsss

:-)

You need to check out France :)

Nice shots! I agree with you - hanging out with locals is the best way to meet the place and culture... And if possible, be in one place for at least 10-15 days..otherwise it is everything but not vacation! :)

Definitely 10-15 days..it's always not enough days of stay I gather!

I love travel. This post was making me smile and imagine being there the whole time. The little fun fact about Le Marais translating to the swamp.

I would have been most intrigued with the places the French nobility frequented. History is my favorite part of traveling because I like trying to imagine myself back in time.

Fun post. Thank you.

I think all of Paris' nobility lived in Le marais, based from lots of grand houses in the area. Palaces-looking buildings were turned to hotels, city halls, even the shops are grand. If you walk towards Arc de Triump, tall shop building' facades are amazing! In Paris, tourists are looking up and not looking down where they're going. That's the impression I got :)

After taking up my major in french, i really wanted to travel to France ... And seeing your post made me want to travel more. :((((

You go girl..you will love it! Let's use that french major of yours!

I'll still be saving a LOT of money. Thank you by the way.

Many have been travelling from their steem earnings..so why not you? Ayaw mo fresh croissant?? in Paris?

I hope I could reach that level maam but i am still new here. I also wish to travel to Paris and try fresh croissant when my earnings are stable na and able nako to help my chosen community. I also wanted to help people.

You can do all those..wait a while. Steemit is here to empower us and be independent. If we believe that..we can do so much. Be excited.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Love and hugs

I have faith on steemit..if you dont need the cash, youre better off using 100% power up.

What would u do if there will be a steemfest in France??
