Malvern Hills: a walk to remember, July 22nd 2017

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

As forecasted, it was going to rain last Saturday. Yet we won't be denied even though it was my fault that we went out later as planned. Blamed the 4 hours drive from London the day before to Great Malvern, instead of more or less 2 hours drive using the motorway (M40).

Already, there was a drizzle before we even reached the carpark in Blackhills, by the south-western part of the hills.

Walking North.

The Malvern Hills

Named as the most popular free tourist attraction in the West Midlands in 2002, are a range of hills dominating the surrounding countryside and the towns and villages of the district MALVERN. The Hills run north/south for about 13 kilometers (8 miles), in between Great Malvern and the village of Colwall and overlook the River Severn valley to the east, with the Cotswold beyond. To the West is Wales and beyond.

The Views

The highest summit affords a panorama of the Severn valley with the hills of Herefordshire and the Welsh mountains.  With too many trails and hills to choose from, anyone is spoiled for choice. Coupled that with the changing dramatic cloud formations, whatever type of the weather, the Hills offer heavenly 360 degrees feasts to the eye.

The rain pouring down the East side in Severn Valley.

Facing the west towards Wales on our descent.

The wind was blowing towards the north, so scared of the rain, we didn't reach the northern part. We started our descent although the sun came out  when we were half-way down.

One can only wonder with the amazing views! Without a doubt, the views on top of  Malvern Hills are one of the best in England. The consensus was, the western views toward Wales have much better landscape. Amazing cloud formations too that day!

Only more than an hour away out of London, or 2 hours by car, one day trips can be easily done and one to not miss if one is ever in London. Few hotels can be found in the town itself and in Colwall, where trails can be accessed going up.

A Steemian manor house here in Malvern, anyone?

Awesome view. Sorry about the light rain. I think everything turned out great. Spending time with friends while burning some calories as you take in the views is definitely an all-around win :)

it wouldn't be normal if there's no showers in England.l :)
