STATS

  • 6 Countries
  • 3 New Countries (Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic)
  • 1000-1300 Miles of driving
(that's nothing it's like driving to my parents house in Oregon and back)
  • This shows staying off big highways but I don't mind taking them at night when there's nothing much to see.

CITY vs SCENIC

I do prefer Mountain, countryside scenes more than cities when i'm by myself.
But if i had to choose cities for photos how would you rank them?

  1. Budapest
  2. Vienna
  3. Prague
  4. Bratislava
  5. OTHER?

Krakow is automatic since i'll be there for a week beforehand.

The quick trip up into Germany is to photograph a building for a series I do. But it does force me to see more of Czech Republic and has me saying i saw 6 countries.

SCENIC OPTIONS

I need some good scenic options... feel free to share pictures of places in the comments.

TRAVEL STYLE

I've traveled a lot in Europe and US in a style that's more free-form... where i end up where I end up.
This also means I don't often book hotels but I'll get a car that can sleep in the back and then get a hotel when i feel like it (usually cities). Also as a photographer this allows me to wake up right where I want to take scenic shots.

To give you an example i once drove from paris to Geneva and instead of 4hrs i think it took me 2-3 days ... I didn't use the freeway and I stopped a lot. But if I cover all this group I may have to go a bit faster.

THE ONLY THING I KNOW FOR SURE...

I'll make a plan but be completely ok with changing it up to do something better if it comes along.

Add Dresden if you can. That city was completely destroyed during WWII and with hard work, a lot of it has been reconstructed (my visit). I haven't been to Budapest, Prague and Bratislava. But I loved Vienna in summer... I hated it in winter though ;)
If you want to see mountains, just make a small detour between Prague and Vienna and you'll have plenty!

Yeah my detours are the cities where most people make those destinations I am not always excited about cities. But i think I'll at least do prague. I'm looking forward more to the mountains i think.

Maybe keep Budapest for another time and instead head to the Hallstat and the Hallstätter See in Austria. This area is the Austrian Lake District. Great reflections, mountains and typical Austrian towns.
(Also: Vorderer Gosausee)

Solid suggestion for sure. Maybe i can just kinda drive through town early one morning and grab the highlights but then come back some day to actually explore it.

I think its doable in 8 days. It depends on how many places you want to visit and spend time( taking photos ) on the way. If you are on your own and don't need to deal with others needs then go for it!

Yeah around here 1200 miles would be easy. But like in france and italy there was so much going on in every little town that it was hard to go far. haha

Good luck, and I think you will make it :D

Thanks... and even if i don't hit everything i'll still see plenty right?

Wow this is awesome! Ill be looking for your photographs. Best of luck!

Should be good. It's november so we'll see how the landscape looks

Prague should be nice, never been but most of the people that were liked it.
I see you are going through Nizke Tatry think there could be some nice scenery. Can't help with locations :(
