The average elevation of the snow-covered High Atlas exceeds 3,000 meters. The chain extends along the Atlantic coast, then rises to the east of Agadir and extends to the northeast in Algeria before disappearing in Tunisia.

About 30 kilometers south of Marrakech is the Ourika Valley, a superb hiking destination just a few minutes from the bustling city.
