Travel to Croatia # 5 (KRKA National Park)

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

The Krka National Park is located in the center of the Croatian region of Dalmatia and stretches along the 73 km of the Krka river, from its source in the Croatian inland mountains of Croatia to its mouth near Šibenik.

The main attraction of the park is the Skradinski Waterfall, undoubtedly the most recognizable image of the Krka National Park. You can hear the thundering sound of the water as you approach these falls. However, if you go in summer, this sound will be deafened by the cries of tourists, becoming selfish from the walkway that gives access to the beach.

The Krka National Park is the only one in the whole of Croatia where bathing is allowed. A real luxury! But be aware that it gets crowded, so the earlier you go, the more options you'll have to place your towel.

We recommend bringing everything for a picnic as the grass areas of the Natural Park of KRKA are perfect for it. But if you want to be a "professional" do not forget to bring your hammock! In any case in the surroundings of the park you can find establishments selling ice cream and snacks, as well as souvenir shops.

In addition to the option of taking a swim near the Skradinski Waterfall, there are several well-equipped walks on the outskirts of the park where you can observe a great variety of fauna and flora. On the other hand, from the park ferries leave to visit Visovac island. A very interesting island, where the Krka Monastery is located. However, we do not take this option.

Tip: Although according to most blogs you can only access the village of Skradin, you can actually access the park by 5 entrances: Skradin, Lozovac, RoškiSlap, Krka Monastery and Burnum. All accessible by car. The advantage of entering from the village of Skradin is that the entrance to the park includes a nice boat ride through the canyon of Skradinski Buk. The disadvantage, as you can imagine, is that in summer there are usually queues to get on the boats
