Photos from the Parking Lot of St. Mary's Church

Recently I took a trip to Jay Peak Resort for some Spring skiing. I stayed at the BGV Airbnb which was situated a half-hour from the mountain in a town called Newport, Vermont. Newport is a great little civilization located on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. This is a fresh water glacial lake located between Newport, Vermont and Quebec, Canada. Much of the Lake is in Canadian territory. As I was leaving the BGV I drove by a church that was sitting on top of a hill. I decided to stop by to see the views of the lake. Here are some photos that I took from the parking lot of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport, Vermont.

Luckily there was not a Saturday morning mass, therefore the parking lot was completely empty. As you can see in the photo below, the church was a tremendous piece of architecture. It sat on a cliff overlooking the lake. I imagine there would be some amazing views from the top of the steeples.

These photos were taken on the morning of March 31, 2018. The sky was clear and it was fairly warm outside. As you can see in the photos, the lake had a thin sheet of ice across it. During the winter the top of lake freezes. People use the lake for many winter recreational activities from snowmobiling to ice-fishing and skating, but it can certainly get dangerous.

My brother @bryanjagoe lived in Newport while he was working at Jay Peak Resort over his winter break. When he found out that I was staying at the BGV, he told me to check out the views from the church parking lot. It was definitely an awesome vantage point on a clear day. This was where I sat and enjoyed the cinnamon muffin that I got from Tim at the BGV. It was a great morning before heading over to shred Jay.
