Can you help us decide what to do on our honeymoon to St. Maarten Island next week?

in travel •  8 years ago

Hello Steemit community, my name is Jeffrey Hann and @courtneydael and I are getting married on August 24th! Time has flown by with so much going on while trying to get everything ready for the wedding and reception. With four kids between us we have a packed household with little time for vacations or to even plan for a vacation. Come to think of it I believe this is our first vacation with only the two of us. As you can believe we are very, super, excited. :)

We are both new to Steemit but I am still trying to convince her to write some articles, she'll get there. ;-) We are both excited for our wedding next week and our honeymoon to St. Maarten. We will be leaving shortly after our wedding, visiting Miami for a night, then continuing on to St. Maarten, Dutch side of the island, for a full week. Being super busy we completely forgot to plan our trip while staying on the island.

Since I started writing on Steemit, and seeing what others have shared, I decided to seek the help of the Steemit community to help us select some fun options. Has anyone been to St. Maarten? What were some of your favorite things to do?

Since we are unsure of what to do could you please help us decide? Listed below are several options. Please leave your pick in the comments and within 24 to 48 hours hours I will purchase the one with the most votes (maybe more if it is a close call). I will post a followup showing proof of the purchase. Also we will be taking pictures, possibly video (I do have a GoPro), and writing about our experience which will be shared later (unsure of what our Internet connection will be while on the island).

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy our trip with us as we start this new chapter of our life together.

Extreme Plane-Spotting at Maho Beach
"Turn-up your Caribbean vacation at the most famous beach on Saint Maarten, Maho Beach. This attraction is unmatched as low-flying jet-planes literally are a few feet above beachgoers—a thrill worth experiencing.

As we head out westward from the Philipsburg port into the welcoming sunshine to relax and enjoy the tantalizing turquoise blue Caribbean waters complimented with the smooth white powder sand of Maho Beach, you will meet other patrons of the famous Sunset Beach Bar that are plane enthusiast like yourself, sipping cocktails (own expense) while actually feeling the vibrations of incoming and outgoing planes.

Feel your adrenaline soar as you focus your camera to score some impressive pics of the arriving jumbo jets. The planes veer overhead to land at the nearby runway of Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM)."

Adventure Sailing
"A once in a lifetime experience on this ocean racing catamaran. Discover the thrill of speeds up to 25 knots or even more without needing any sailing experience. On this remarkable catamaran we bring a privileged group of up to 12 people maximum. You won't get the same experience than with any other charter! We can also visit destinations not available to the bigger charter boats, like Dog Island or Little Bay."

Adventure sailing goes to two different destinations depending on weather. Dog Island and Littlelbay.

Sea Trek (they say space is limited)
"While you are under water, air will continuously come into your helmet through low pressure hoses. The air pressure inside keeps the water at around shoulder height, which means you can wear prescription glasses and most of the time your hair stays dry. Guided by the safety diver, you climb down a ladder to reach the ocean floor, 20ft down. The underwater trek itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete."

Rhino Safari (Self-Drive Boat Tour)
"Discover the beauty of St Maarten's western coast aboard a self-drive inflatable boat—a unique alternative to the typical sightseeing tour. A knowledgable guide will accompany you on your journey from Philipsburg to Creole Rock on the island's French side. Once arriving, spend some time snorkeling in protected waters alongside sea turtles and schools of tropical fish, then get back behind the wheel to marvel at hidden bays and beaches."

Congratulations you two! I hope you will live happily ever after.

@tobythecat Thank you! We are getting antsy waiting with only a week to go. What adventure, out of the four choices above, do you recommend we go on? :)

I've always enjoyed water activities, and extreme plain-spotting just seems horrifying to me personally. I hate loud noises :) I would 100% go for Sea Trek if my counterpart was up for that equally. Happy adventures from Denmark!

@tobythecat the Sea Trek does look like a lot of fun. Loud noises do not bother me so the plane interests me the most. Maybe we'll get to do both. Thanks!

Thank you!!!! 😃

I would say all the above. I've been to St. Maarten a few times in fact that is where we picked up our sailboat and started our adventure which I posted yesterday. I've done the scuba safari in Bora Bora and it was fantastic. I've also been there about 4 times via cruise ship and went to a few beaches. You two have a great time and a wonderful adventure together.

@mikehere Awesome thanks! What was your favorite thing to do on St. Maarten?

Nobody for adventure sailing? I thought that was looked really cool! And it takes you to places most cannot go due to vessel size. :) it's a small personal tour, I think max of 12 people? :)

I don't think I would be unhappy with any of them though! :)

Right? Decisions decisions.... :) <3
