Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka - a hidden treasure on our planet

in travel •  8 years ago

For me Sri Lanka was one of the nicest countries to travel, because the beautiful nature and the generosity of the people. The journey from Colombo to the mountain Adam's Peak is one of my most memorable experiences in Sri Lanka. Before I went to Sri Lanka I had never heard of this mountain. It really is one of the most unknown 'diamonds' on our planet.

Adam's Peak (2242 meters) is a holy mountain for some believers of most of the biggest world religions. On top of the mountain there is a big footprint of 2 meters long. Some Christians and Muslims believe that this footprint comes from Adam. After being cast out from heaven his first step on earth was on the top of Adam's Peak. Buddhists believe the footprint is from Buddha and Hindus think it's from Shiva.

To reach the mountain a guy from my hostel and I traveled from Colombo to Hatton per train. From Hatton we took the taxi to Dalhousie. The beauty of the environment around Adam's Peak is really breath taking. I saw beautiful green hills, lakes and valleys, what made the journey amazing.

In the early morning we walked up the mountain and just before sunrise we reached the top. The whole journey to reach the top is absolutely worth it, because the view on the surroundings is beautiful. When you are lucky you will also see the shadow of the mountain, in the shape of a triangle, being displayed on the background. It was not my lucky day, but maybe you can test your luck someday.

It is nice to hear the appreciation of the mountain Adam's Peak. Though it is a tiresome journey, it is a kind of adventure tour. Have you bathed from 'Seetha Gangula'? It is very cold but fantastic. Hope you will revisit this amazing place.

Awesome man! Beautiful view as well. This was a trip well worth the taking!
