City Hall in Calais, France

in travel •  6 years ago

The bell tower of the Town Hall is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the foreground is a beautifully landscaped garden with numerous grass carved billets with fragrant and gorgeous flowers.

The city lies at Dover Gate at the narrowest point of the Channel. In the nearby town of Coquelles, there is a French terminal tunnel under the Channel.
The old part of town (Calais-Nord) is located on an artificial island, surrounded by canals and ports. The newer (Saint Pierre) occupies the south and south-eastern part.
