West Japan Travel - Kyoto [Kiyomizu-dera] |

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Kiyomizu-dera is the oldest temple in Kyoto, built in AD780. Kiyomizu means clear water. The unique specialty is the structure of the main hall, just out over the hillside and supported by 139 pillars and there is not a single nail used in the structure. But unfortunately, we were unable to visit it because it was under renovation and the renovation will finish in 2020. Don't worry, except for the main hall, there are other attractions to visit too.

After coming up from the stairs and walking in a bit, here comes the marvelous three-storeyed pagoda.

Beside the tower, a large impressive view of the city was offered.

Zuigu-do Hall |

Zuigu-do hall is giving you a journey experience that you seem to walk inside the Bodhisattva's uterus. The exploring was provided underneath the hall. But we didn't get enough time to learn through.

Main Hall | 本堂

Definitely, the biggest regret is that the main hall was under construction so we couldn't go to the veranda and Otowa Waterfall.

I remember being there! Lots of good food and artisan products being sold along the streets as well. Definitely one of the highlights of Kyoto

Yeah, you are right. But just a bit crowded.

I actually haven't had the chance to visit there, always rushing across Kyoto!
I'll try to make time to visit it soon in July!

The view gonna be very nice. Don't miss it this time.
