My second time in Siargao.
This time, I'm more focused on enjoying and experiencing the culture, people, and tradition of the island compared to my first visit when I'm more prioritizing the tours and packages in various places (a must places).
I stayed in Las Islas Hostel, still located in the heart of General Luna.
The best decision you will ever make in Siargao is staying in a hostel. Why? Because you will encounter different people in different countries with different languages and culture. Everyone in the hostel is like a family. You can use the kitchen for your personal cooking and the owners are very hospitable to the point that they have a free breakfast everyday and a family dinner every sunday. The owners will personally cook for you.
People.
I met a bunch of foreigners in Siargao. From couples, friends, to solo backpackers. Everyone has different personalities but when mixed all together, no emotional barriers. It is like we are of the same blood. We had a tour which called the "sunset party", only organized by our local friend, Odile of Patrick's by the beach. We stayed in an island called Guyam for the rest of the afternoon waiting for the sun to finally set. We had fun there. We bought drinks and food for all.
Majority of my time is allocated in roaming around the city. Every morning, I will ride my motorbike to explore different sites all by myself. Meeting locals, eating local food, and experiencing the culture of different families along the way.
Surfing.
The last time I tried surfing is with an instructor, but this time, I tried surfing alone. I surfed for a total of 3 hours without experiencing a single ride at all. Though, surfing is really hard for beginners but it was all worth it. Paddle!!!!
When visiting Siargao, I recommend to stay in a hostel, rent a bike and tour on your own, talk to people, party, and don't forget to walk barefooted.
Enjoy!
