The Definition of an Island

I am living on an island wich translates to "isolated place".

Ferries run form Kavala to Prinos and from Keramoti to Limenas, both on Thasos-island, nothern Greece. The street however, wich runs around the island has only been built in the seventies. The years, decades and centuries before the villages on the island where themselves isolated, as they are scattered in different valleys of the Psarion-range.

The picture shows the view from Stamatias taverna to the mainland, which is our preferred hang-out in Mikro Kazaviti. The name "Kazaviti" again says it all: "House of Wines". The phoenecians and romans once have been cultivating wine here, terracing the whole valley. On the mainland runs the ancient "Via Egnatia" - once connecting Rome with Constantinople. The city of Kavala was a stopping point, for, have a guess: changing horses - therefore the Name: Kavala. Even today, nearby Thessalonikis main street ist called "Egnatia".
