Venture through the derelict oasis in the California desert: mini series

in travel •  7 years ago

Me and a couple of friends went on a mini road trip outside of our hometown of Hesperia in the High Desert. Our hometown has some things to offer but gets rather old very fast. There are some locations on the outskirts of town that have new things to offer especially for us desert rats. This mini series showcases our adventure at bottle tree ranch and inside an abandoned hospital located in a deserted community of track homes built by the military that is directly across from a federal penitentiary.

First destination: Bottle Tree Ranch!

This oasis of bottle trees located far from most civilization was started by Elmer Long, a marine vet who settled in a small town who got bored one day and started making bottle trees and eventually realized how people were taking pictures of them and an idea popped in his head to just keep making more and more to create an alluring tourist attraction.

Elmer lived here and has been doing this for 40 years!

Next destination: abandoned hospital

This is my first time ever being in this type of environment, all I could think about was what was once here.

All in all, this was definitely a new and fun experience that I wont forget and I was glad that I had my DSLR to capture these moments.
