Here I am Cruising on my scooter Having a great time exploring the streets of Phnom Penh. Then BANG my rear tyre has blown out . “Bloody hell” I think to myself but not for long two locals came over and got me sorted out in no time. With the tyre fixed I asked them if they new a great true local place to eat and that it was my shout for all there help .Don’t worry I gave them a good tip to. Next thing I know all three of us are squashed on the back of my bike and where off . Twisting down wet half muddy streets we arrived at the most wonderful local place I have ever been . For starts there is no menu and any thing that was written was in Khmer. Nice.

What a place. First of you go to a large counter and everything you need to cook is laid out in little trays. All the meats vegetables herbs mushrooms and so much more. Once you have made your selection you go to your table with your pile of food. Next this amazing grill cooking frying steaming and smoking device comes out.

Down the bottom is your stock soups usually two different sorts light in flavour but so tasty. Then above that is a grill plate for the meats hearts and seafood. Then you have a little steamer or smoker on the top. The whole multi cooker sits on a humble camping gas cooker but it works so well.
Now it’s cook time. You do this all yourself so I was lucky to have two locals to help me out. Mushrooms herbs and some veg go into the stock. Meats like heart beef and seafood go on the grill plate and cockle shells go in the smoker steamer. It is so much fun and yum.4BC43F60-37C0-4DF6-960E-100F92097C88.jpeg
Grab a bowl put some stock soup in it and then just grabbed and throw all the food you want into your bowl and munch away. If you want more just throw more mushrooms and herbs in the stock chuck more hearts and seafood on the plate and just keep on eating.
The great thing was that I could chat away while cooking and eating. It’s was the best social food.

The cool thing about it was when we where finished anything left over you didn’t have to pay for you only pay for what you eat so awesome. I know your probably thinking “god how many times has this been recycled but it was all so fresh so so fresh.
What a night I will never forget it the best company and the best true local food. My suggestion is be nice to locals, give them a little bow and always smile and you will find some amazing people in Cambodia that will become your family.
