Brussels, Belgium (Tips & Pictures)

Ever heard the phrase 'Muscles in Brussels' before? Well....it just so happens that it's true. Brussels is the hub of the European Union, and however you may feel about that bureaucratic institution, you should not let it spoil the wonderful things you can find in the city. Yes, Brussels has political muscles BUT you're gonna want to go after different MUSSELS.....like these steamed mussels covered in melted crispy cheese! Wowzer....

Brussels is home to over 1 million residents but it has the feel of a much smaller city. Everything you'll need (as a tourist) is in the center of the city. All the museums, parks, bars, restaurants, hotels & hostels are within walking distance and that is a great thing. GRANDE PLACE, the center square of Brussels, is the place to be and well worth walking through each day of your visit.

The most culturally astounding part of Brussels is the MANNEKEN PIS attraction. It's a statue of a little kid taking a pee into a fountain.

Each day, they dress it up different outfits. Sometimes the crowd gets so large it's as if everyone's waiting in line to meet the President. It's very silly. Oh look....Rob seems to be enjoying it.

If you're not into looking at little metallic children while they pee you can get some soup.

Or head over to Théâtre royal de Toone and look at some PUPPETS.

Another great thing to do while is Brussels is DRINKING BEER. After all, it's Belgium and they've got some of the best beer in the world.

DELIRIUM is a cool place to check out if you're up for a relaxing night of drinking.

Or you could walk around the city and make funny faces like I did.

There's actually a small park where there's a little parrot community up in the trees. I'd never have thought of finding wild parrots in a cold climate such as Belgium. That'll be a nice treasure hunt for you as you walk the city. FIND THE BELGIAN PARROTS!

As you walk throughout the city you'll find other beautiful fountains, sans peeing children.

It's easy to get around by foot, by car or by public transportation. The train station is easy to navigate and if you've got any issues the staff there are very helpful.

A nice place to eat before you leave is on the strip of ULTRA TOURIST RESTAURANTS off of GRANDE PLACE and the hosts will certainly be pushy... but I'd advise you to eat at CHEZ LEON.
