With autumn upon us and foliage enthusiasts abound, a great little hike to go on is at the north end of Schunemunk Mountain in Orange County, New York. It's about an hour and a half drive for tourists visiting New York City and is well worth the time and effort. You may remember the scenery from the George Clooney film, 'Michael Clayton' (2007).
It's easy to overlook small destinations such as these when visiting a tourist hot spot like New York City because there are so many other things to do BUT.....if you have a rental car or friends that can drive you around...be sure to check out the TRESTLE in SALISBURY MILLS/CORNWALL. Just take 94 to 20 and drive until you see the rolling hills and the train tracks.
There will be a small gravel parking lot that fits about 10 vehicles. Then, just follow the dirt path up the hill.
It'll take you about 5-10 minutes to walk up to the trees. Then.....
...you can just lay back on the ground and enjoy the view. Or take pictures. Or have a picnic. Whatever your heart desires.
Not too bad of a view, right? For all you travelers, you've got TWO MONTHS until the best time of the year for hiking in New York so you've gotta start making those plans. September is still fairly hot and November can be very rainy so.....I'd say your best bet is the first 3 weeks of October if you want to see amazing colors & have crisp, cool weather.
Thanks for coming on this brief walk with me & checking out The Moodna Viaduct railroad trestle.
