Why is Itsukushima Shrine built on the sea?

The world heritage "Itsukushima Shrine" is located in Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Itsukushima (Miyajima) has long been believed as an island itself as a god.

Itsukushima shrine stands on the sea.
Contrast with the green spreading behind also has exceptional beauty.
It was registered as a World Heritage in Heisei 8 (1996) year.

Its Itsukushima shrine was founded in 1423 ago (593 years).
After that, "Taira no Kiyomori" built Itsukushima Shrine on the sea in 1168.

The largest main hall in Japan was rebuilt in 1571 by Mori Motonari.
Three goddesses are enshrined in Itsukushima Shrine.
They are deeply believed as a god of the sea, a god of transportation, a god of good fortune, a god of artistry.

The high stage in front of main hall is called "Japan's Three Major Stage" with Osaka's Shitennoji Temple and Sumiyoshi Taisha Stone Stage.

At Itsukushima Shrine, "Bugaku" different from Kagura is danced.
