New Orleans escapes all the stereotypes of the United States. Here, we can vibrate with the Creole culture that was being created to long centuries of African influence, Caribbean and French. Delight us with food, unique. We can dive straight in the election of music, jazz. We can get the party in the streets the night. Especially at the time of Mardi Gras, the biggest annual event in the city.

TO SEE AND DO

French Quarter - This is the most known neighborhood of New Orleans. Enjoy the colonial homes, take photos at Jackson Square, go to St. Louis Cathedral and meet the 1850 House.

Louis Armstrong Park - At the edge of the French Quarter, there is this great park, where they can relax, walk or have a picnic. Do not forget to pass the Congo Square, early in the parquet. This was was the meeting point of the slaves in colonial times.

Rent a bike - To know the various neighborhoods of the city, it is best to rent a bike for a few hours. Thus, they will be able to explorer the city, leaving the French Quarter and go across Magazine Street to the Audubon Park.

Swamps of Louisiana - A trip to New Orleans is not complete without a visit to the swamps. Around the different bayous (swampy streams) nature is still wild and here you can find crocodiles, wild pigs and raccoons. I did the tour with Cajun Encounters that took us by boat to know the marshes.

Voodoo Tour - New Orleans is the birthplace of the voodoo religion, which Christianity was born from the mixture with the African religions. To learn more about the story behind the Voodoo, I made a tour Free Tours By Foot, who works in a logic of "pay what you want at the end."

TO EAT

Central Grocery - Here you can prove one of the most famous sandwiches in the United States, Muffuletta, created by an Italian immigrant. It has several types of sausage, cheese and olive paste. It is located at 923 Decatur Street in the French Quarter.

Café du Monde - This is one of the most famous places of New Orleans and rightly so. The specialty here are the beignets, a kind of abundance wrapped in powdered sugar. It is located at 800 Decatur Street in the French Market.

Praline Connection - this restaurant will be able to know the true Creole cuisine, a unique cuisine of African influence, French and Caribbean. The best option will be to choose one of the mixed dishes, where we can taste the different specialties. And keep room for dessert: bread pudding with praline sauce. It is located at 542 Frenchmen Street.

Superior Seafood & Oyster Bar - The stuffed oysters are one of the delights of the city and the top are made with all the refinement. It's hard to say no!

TO SLEEP

India House Backpackers Hostel - This is one of the options more affordable in New Orleans and it was here that I was housed. The hostel has dorms and double rooms, dining area of quilting, a swimming pool and breakfast for a fee.

Omni Royal Orleans - Located in the French Quarter, this 4-star hotel, allows us to travel to the colonial era. It is refined and elegant, for those seeking a high comfort dose. It has a pool on the roof and a rooftop bar, and is known for Sunday brunch.
