Through the millenia people in Dalmatia used stone as main building material, not only for houses but in the fields and hills also. This is example of one faced stone wall. Walls like this were quite easy and fast to build by the rocks that are found around. One faced walls were build more as a fence, to prevent animals going out, or in. Two faced walls were more solid and can be found in the fields, dividing parts of land. Also, the walls were build in the fields to prevent losing soil during heavy rains. Nowdays, people don't make these kind of walls. But still, thousands of kilometers of these walls can be seen all around as a reminder of difficult life and hard working people in the past.
