We have had to wait for three years, but tonight it is time again: Ghent will be bathed in light again during the Light Festival. During this edition, there are 37 installations to discover upon a course of more than 6 kilometers that crosses the entire city.

The Light Festival attracted 640,000 visitors to Ghent in 2015. This year the city is better prepared. In order to spread the public attendance, this 4th edition takes one day longer. The starting hour is also adjusted: the Light Festival only starts at 7 pm so that the residents can still go home smoothly and the people working in the center can easily leave the city.
Almost half of the installations were made by local Ghent companies. The multimedia company Fisheye, for example, will have the unique opportunity to show their worth under the city hall. In addition, there are works by 15 international artists.

Some striking installations this year: a spectacular projection that makes the administrative center glow in the dark, a dragon trying to break out at the François Laurentplein and a remarkable gigantic moon that pops up in the streets (photo below). Also the technological and scientific aspects of light will get attention. Ghent University made an interactive route with hands-on lighting installations.

During the darkest days of the year, the Light Festival wants to get people out on the streets to enjoy great spectacular works and small intimistic artworks by local and international artists. To amaze and move people with art, that is the purpose of this Light Festival. If you happen to be in the neighborhood: do not miss this!
