Part of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra, after government troops recaptured the UNESCO world heritage site from ISIS jihadists on March 27, 2016. Palmyra was an ancient caravan city, its wealth and fortunes strongly linked to the steady flow of Silk Road travelers coming and going.
