Are AF miles valuable? 

Yes they are.. AF miles can be used often for discounted Business Class tickets. I was able to use my AF miles and buy a oneway Business Class Ticket to the US for 25.000 miles in the past. Having different miles is great as you are flexible. If you are stuck at Steemfest like I was having AF miles would have helped me in Amsterdam... (I didn't have any, so I had to fly a lowcost carrier)

Miles are super valuable in case of emergencies, i.e you have to fly somewhere and you lean about it 3days prior to travel or it's next day. Usually the rates for paid tickets are super high, but mileage tickets often have the same redemption rate, so you can save thousands of $$$ if you do it right.
