Frequent Traveller #85: Japanese Shinkansen

Japanese Shinkansen (Bullet Train)

It does not happen very often that I use a train. I prefer flying but going from Tokyo to Osaka makes more sense with a train than the plane. In Japan the Shinkansen (Bullettrain) which was introduced for the Olympic Games in Japan is the best way to arrive on time in your destination. The Shinkansen runs every 10-13 Minutes from Tokyo to Kyoto... Tickets in this Bullettrain are super expensive. A oneway will cost you aroundd 13000 yen which is around 115 USD. Never forget to buy a nice Bento box for the trip and enjoy the Bentobox while passing by Mount Fuji

The Shinkansen only takes 2:22 Hours from Tokyo to Osaka (510km/ 312 Miles) I would say that is pretty impressive and the Shinkansen is like a Boeing 787. It has huge windows and is super quiet. You will only realize how fast the train is, if you step out and go to the bathroom.

There is something called Railpass in Japan for foreigners. I am usually buying that pass if i want to use the Shinkansen frequently. for 200 USD you get a unlimited 7 day pass, but I will make another post about that pass one day.

Did you try the Shinkansen in Japan ???

Great post!

Did you try the Shinkansen in Japan ???

Unfortunately I have never been to Japan yet ... However I read that the Shinkansen is very punctual (opposite to trains in Germany ...).

yes it is the japanese train. in japan the trains total delays per year are less than the delays in whole germany for a month

Awesome would like to go on one of those trains even for 115 exceptionally seeing mount fugi very nice @ knozaki2015

I've always wanted to ride on it, but never found the time to. Can't wait to hear about the Railpass! Also, that bento looks amazing! Was is good?

the bento was great. it was around 10usd. and I liked it very much

I never took the shinkansen while in Japan but after seeing your pictures, I definitely will try it the next time. I can't believe how fast you got to Osaka. Thank-you for sharing. I have really been enjoying your ventures.

yes. many business man live in Osaka and go to work in tokyo ;)

Very cool article and train. My train is Amtrak???

Whoa! Great photographs man! Loved it :)

excelente post felicidades y exitos amigo :)

Nice post

Wow so fast and furious!!! Really cool. Once I took the bullet train in China... it cut my trip time from 3 hours to 35 minutes! So incredible, and expensive!!!

thank you . acutally the chinese bullet train is the shinkansen. it is japanese technologie.

Wow that's so awesome!

Modern conveniences of technology, what a cool train! I've never been to japan apart from being inside the airports, but I would love to travel on this thing sometime.

Some impressive speed :D

it is kinda nuts. you wont realize how fast that train is going. it is iinsane

Happy traveling.
Awesome.!!
Great post..

Excellent job sir @ knozaki2015.
This service would come very well in my country Argentina, here we have trains to do a route of 1200 km in 24 hours, a real shame, here was a great solccion to integrate the provinces with the capital.
thank you for your information
Have a great weekend

Bullet Train is a wonderful train, this is a fastest train in world.

actually the maglev in shanghai is he fastest. I need to find my pictures. I think i wrote a blogpost about that a while a go ;) it goes 432 km/ h but is scary

Nope, I did a film shoot in Shibuya district several years back and filmed the famous crossroads, but never took the fast train. Nevertheless sushi in Japan is sushi in Japan. :)

Looking cool! But on the PC screen the options were all in Japanese. Do the people speak english? How do you get by?

it swichtes to english every 2 seconds ;)
and everything ist in english. so no worries

I had the luck to travel in one of these. The experience was mesmerizing. Much like an airplane but way more relaxing. The Tokyo - Osaka line is one of the most popular ones right?

yes it is the most popular one. 82 trains per day ;)

darn

The best transportationsystem in the world. Actually it is toooo fast, I feel like missing out on the beautiful landscapes zapping by so quickly. So prefer to take the slower (and cheaper) alternative trains available.. I love japan for all it's diversity :)

you can always take the hikari or kodama instead fo the nozomi. these make stops and are a bit slower

Great post @knozaki2015. I've mentioned on all my travel posts about Japan on how wonderful the Shinkansen is and how the JR pass is well worth getting if you're going to be in Japan for more than 7 days and want to explore outside of Tokyo.

It also makes travelling within Tokyo a lot easier on the JR lines.

yes I always get the jr railpass if I go to japan

500 KM in 2 minutes, on a train! That's unbelievable!!!!!Japan is helping India also have it's bullet train network.
By the way, how much it would have cost you to travel this distance by air?

it is 2 hours ;) airplane is 60usd

Oh you wrote 2:22 minutes in your post, so I got confused. Wow, plane is much cheaper.

you are right. very sorry. corrected that !

I've had the pleasure of riding in the Shinkansen a couple years ago. It is still the highlight of all my trips to Japan.

everybody loves the shinkansen. it is like from the future ;)

Next time I'll purchase a Bento box to enjoyed the full Japanese experience.
